A slice of my family's backyard in Louisiana. My Lil Burn, the cypress swamp.
All ceramic work must be fired once to burn the water out of the clay. The Raku process begins AFTER this first firing.
Raku firing is open-air and the kiln is made using a delicate fire blanket, so we cannot fire in the rain.
When Raku work reaches peak temperature, we use gloves and tongs to transfer each piece into a pit of paper. Choreography is key.
